Employees in the Career Advancement Program will be evaluated semi-annually to determine if they meet the established program requirements. If requirements are met, employees will be eligible for a salary increase. Upon meeting all program requirements, the employee is eligible to be promoted non-competitively to a Pay Band 3. Developmental Assignment DEVELOPMENTAL ASSIGNMENT: All Professional Work Category positions advertised at a Pay Band 2 are part of NGA's developmental program. Positions in the developmental program will be hired with starting base salaries ranging from $35,359 to $61,922. Employees in the developmental program will be evaluated semi-annually to determine if they meet the established developmental requirements. If requirements are met, developmental program employees will be eligible for a progression increase. Upon meeting all milestone requirements, the employee is eligible to be promoted non-competitively to a Pay Band 3. This promotion completes developmental program participation and the employee will no longer receive progression increases, and will be evaluated in accordance to the Agency's standard evaluation processes. Position Summary ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION: Geodetic Surveyors perform geodetic, geophysical, and handheld GEOINT surveys. They use, maintain, and troubleshoot survey equipment, and compute, adjust, and evaluate geodetic survey data. They provide technical expertise on geodetic and geophysical issues to customers and represent NGA in external community forums. Additional Position Info ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: GEOINT Analysts (Geodetic Survey) solve three dimensional geodetic and astronomic positional problems, determine geodetic and astronomic azimuths, and measure fluctuations and accelerations in the Earth's magnetic and gravity fields. They serve as NGA's primary ground-based data collectors and use and maintain a variety of geodetic and geophysical survey equipment to support data acquisition. They compute, adjust, and evaluate geodetic survey data acquired by other organizations. They provide technical expertise on geodetic and geophysical issues to customers and represent NGA in external community forums that establish DoD and Intelligence Community doctrine and policy. Mandatory Qualification Reqs MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree in Geodesy, Mathematics, Physical Science, or a related discipline that includes at least 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework in any combination of Astronomy, Cartography, Computer Science, Engineering Science, Geodesy, Geology, Geomatics, Geophysics, Geographic Information Systems, Mathematics, Meteorology, Orbital Mechanics, Photogrammetry, Physical Science, Physics, Remote Sensing, or Surveying. Coursework must include differential equations and integral calculus. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework in any area listed in option A plus experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of college work is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years. -OR- C. Experience: Six years of experience in conducting work related to Civil Engineering, Geodesy, Geophysics, Geotechnical analysis, Surveying, or related experience. Classification as a Professional Engineer or Land Surveyor is highly desirable. Highly Desired Skills QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1) Experience utilizing computer technology skills, as well as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and ESRI ArcGIS v 9.0 or higher; 2) Experience applying knowledge of Trimble Business Center software, Trimble R8 and SPS 855 GPS receivers, and Leica TS 15 and 30 total stations; 3) Bachelor's or Master's degree in Surveying or Geodesy; 4) Professional Land Surveyors License in any US state; 5) Experience performing field work in harsh environmental conditions that frequently change.
