Director of Federal Advocacy and PolicyLevel ManagementJob Location Washington DC - Washington, DCPosition Type Full TimeEducation Level 4 Year DegreeTravel Percentage Up to 50% Job Shift Day Overview: The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) is a national nonprofit representing the 70 medical and osteopathic boards of the United States and its territories. The FSMB provides a range of assessment tools, policy documents and guidance to its member boards. FSMB's ultimate objective is to promote excellence in medical practice, licensure, and regulation and serve as the national resource and voice on behalf of state medical boards as they fulfill their mission to protect the public. The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) DC Office seeks a Director of Federal Advocacy and Policy, Responsibilities: Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Support the Chief Advocacy Officer in developing and implementing the FSMB's federal legislative and regulatory agenda on behalf of state medical and osteopathic boards. Serve as a key representative advocating the FSMB's position to the Congress and Executive Branch. Develop relationships to expand the FSMB's network with members of Congress, Congressional Staff, health care trade associations, Executive Agencies, and the White House. Represent the FSMB in multiple external facing roles, including amongst elected Government officials, third party organizations, trade associations, regulatory authorities, and other situations as needed. Manage the day-to-day relationships with external government relations firm(s), conveying needs and expectations of FSMB governance and senior staff. Maintain working knowledge of and compliance with the FSMB's mission and goals, bylaws, public policies, products, and services. Monitor and report on legislative and regulatory initiatives important to state medical boards and the FSMB. Manage and support the FSMB Advocacy Network, including drafting e-newsletters, mobilizing grassroots network on specific issues, etc. Coordinate FSMB Capitol Hill Day and other Congressional/Administration meetings as necessary for FSMB Board of Directors and Executive Leadership. Serve as a staff support to committees and workgroups. Monitor and report progress on established advocacy goals. EO/Affirmative Action Employer Females/Minorities/Veterans/Disability/Transgender. Professional Background Required: Candidates shall have demonstrated competencies in the following areas: Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate effectively. Experience working closely with a communications / marketing team to promote and advocate for policy initiatives. Analytical skills with the ability to analyze and plan strategically within a team environment. Working knowledge of federal legislative and regulatory processes. Ability to develop and execute public policy and advocacy strategy. Ability to represent organization priorities in an external capacity. Demonstrated experience coalition building. Own, cultivate, and maintain legislative or regulatory contacts Interpersonal skills: friendly, assertive, courteous and diplomatic. Candidates shall possess: Bachelor's degree. Master's degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Public Administration, or related field is preferred. 7-10 years experience in federal advocacy/government affairs or on Capitol Hill.
