Chair of Department of Oncology and Diagnostic Sciences The University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Dentistry is seeking to fill the position of Chair in the Department of Oncology and Diagnostic Sciences. The chair provides the overall vision, leadership and supervision and is accountable to fulfill the educational, research, clinical and service missions of the department and school. The Chair oversees the day-to-day operations, including clinical services, operations and sound fiscal management. The Chair has the responsibility to advance research creativity and productivity as well as to foster interactions with clinical partners, research partners and other collaborating organizations that lead to successful research programs that advance human health. Equally important, the Chair will provide leadership oversight and effective management of active programs of independent, extramurally funded basic, translational and clinical research in various areas, including cancer biology, stem cells, bone regeneration, angiogenesis, microbe/host interactions and cell metabolism. The University of Maryland School of Dentistry enjoys a strong, collaborative relationship with the renowned National Cancer Institute designated University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, where a major goal is to inspire interdisciplinary cancer research, including cutting-edge technologies to make discoveries that will lead to next generation diagnostics, specific therapeutics and effective preventives. Requirements for the position include an MD, or DDS/DMD, and/or PHD equivalent degree(s) and a history of successful administrative performance. MD/DDS candidates should be board certified and eligible for unrestricted medical/dental licensure in the State of Maryland. He/she should have a demonstrated track record of distinction in research, teaching, and potentially clinical care in an academic environment combined with the development and successful implementation of new academic (educational, patient care, research) programs and services. The new Chair will also need to demonstrate the ability to recruit and develop faculty, trainees, and students. Superior management skills including the ability to grow revenues, meet budgets, measure and improve productivity/outcomes, and initiate appropriate business strategies to achieve the division, department and/or enterprise goals are essential. The successful candidate will have an established and continuing independent NIH-funded sponsored research portfolio and evidence of scientific research including peer-reviewed articles and extramural funding. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position will be available until filled.
