The engineer is responsible for the administration and technical support of Microsoft Windows, Linux, MacOS, and Cloud applications and services. This includes: the planning, implementation and testing of academic lab production-level hardware and software systems; the development and maintenance of deployment scripts for application and development environments in desktop labs and virtual environments, access to academic programs and services, and database, update, software version control, and VM/Docker repositories; and evaluating and maintaining security best practices for course and research services. The engineer position is also responsible for: the management of student lab assistants and tutors; technical support for faculty and student software engineering, data science and cyberdefense groups; administration of classroom and lab access scheduling and reservation processes; operations support and tracking for classroom technology and project lab resources and supplies; development of configuration standards; and the documentation of systems and end-user services. Bachelor's degree and one year of related experience. Must demonstrate proficiency with Linux and Windows operating systems. Must demonstrate experience with complex computing environments, scripting languages, system management and security. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a team environment, communicate technical information and possess interpersonal and problem solving skills. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
