General Summary Under limited supervision, directs the operation of outpatient mental health programs which are staffed with multidisciplinary teams. Ensures the provision of comprehensive, integrated, and uninterrupted mental health care to individuals and their families in the hospital and continuity of care in the community. Ensures the demonstration of positive interpersonal relations with patients, families, visitors and co-workers, reflecting commitment to the values and ethics of the profession. Fulfillment of the job duties requires the employee to have access to medication storage areas. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks * Provides leadership, guidance and consultation to multidisciplinary mental health teams consisting of nurses, social workers, psychologists, other mental health workers and students. * Maintains quality of patient care and mental health services by direct observation and through supervision of team leaders and support staff. * Implements and monitors quality assurance indicators which may include, clinical supervision, case management assessment procedures, timeliness of diagnostic evaluations, and completeness of assessment procedures. * Provides clinical and administrative supervision including work assignment, training, evaluation and clinical case consultation in accordance with UMMS and departmental policies and procedures. * Assists the Director with recruitment and hiring of multidisciplinary staff and the development of clinic orientation. * Conducts annual performance evaluations of staff and implements corrective action measures when necessary. * Approves requests for leave and arranges for adequate clinical coverage when team members are absent. Implements personnel policies and counseling around use of leave, absenteeism and employee performance. * Conducts staff meetings on a regular basis to disseminate information, interpret policies, report on the progress of agency programs and provide continuity among staff members and between other agency components. * Determines staff educational needs and develops/plans training programs for multidisciplinary staff and professional students for all required training. * Administers, coordinates, and supervises human services activities with other health care professionals and outside agencies. * Assists the Director in developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), OHCQ and CMS standards. * Responsible for monitoring the environment of care at the site and for addressing any issues that occur. * Provides advanced psychiatric social work and/or mental health services for the most difficult and complex cases. * Advocates with clients with various social systems when appropriate, and coordinates treatment with other involved agencies. * B. Implements individual treatment plans as recommended by the clinical treatment team utilizing individual, family and group therapy. * C. Documents clinical interventions and patient's progress through regular case recordings, review, and reformulation of treatment plans. * Consults with other disciplines to ensure adequate case management. Conducts intake interviews and presents intakes to clinical team for formulation of treatment plans. * Develops and maintains contact with various community service agencies and health care professionals to exchange information and to facilitate delivery of services. What You Need to Be Successful: Education and Experience * Master's degree from an accredited school of Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, or in any behavioral health-related field, is required. * Five years post-masters experience in the delivery of mental health services is required. In addition, two years supervisory experience is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Proficient knowledge of clinical practice and theory, program planning and regulatory requirements (CMS, OCHQ and The Joint Commission) for clinical services. * Proficient supervisory skills are required, including directing and managing the work of clinical and support staff involving determination of work priorities, auditing work quality, orienting and training, evaluation and discipline of staff. * Proficient organization and problem-solving skills are required to develop/implement efficient work processes, and to successfully resolve difficult, conflict-oriented situations for the common good. * Proficient guest relations skills are required to positively and effectively present a good image of the organization and the department to its customers. * Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary in order to work with medical, nursing and social work staff. * Current, valid, MD state driver's license is required. Not more than two points on the driving record per year permitted. * Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient populations(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
