In accordance with National Lutheran's We Care philosophy, the Guiding Principle Core Values, and in alignment with the NLCS culture, the Aide/Worker is responsible and accountable for the following: CORE COMPETENCIES Reporting to the Dining Services Supervisor this position performs a wide variety of complex and routine tasks in the preparation, service and delivery of food products and/or service of dining services operations. Activities may include manual work in support of department operations to include: operating dish machine, washing pots, performing heavy cleaning duties; transporting equipment food, supplies, refuse and cashier activities as directed. Assume lead worker duties when required. Participates in the providing high level dining services at all times. Works closely with Dining Services Team to ensure the highest level of dining services to resident, visitors and NLCS employees Assists in food service line and/or dining services setup; ensures that quality standards are maintained and safe food handling guidelines are adhered to Detects and immediately reports improperly prepared food or food that does not meet NLCS and regulatory standards. Also reports defective/damaged food and supplies inventory to designated supervisor Adheres to all NLCS kitchen policies and procedures to include those related to equipment operation, food stock rotation, safe food handling practices, food preparation and storage Assists in storage of supplies and food products as required; conduct physical inventories and maintain inventory records; unload and/or store incoming supplies and equipment as directed. Notifies supervisor of identified food, supplies or equipment needs Prepares and sets up food items to be delivered to catering/special event functions as needed. Plans, organizes and provides dining services for routine and complex dining services as required. May work as needed for specially planned facility catering events Performs cashier duties including operating a cash register, calculating costs, totals receipts at end of shift, and reconciles and prepares deposit report documentation Performs cleaning/sanitation of food service carts, supplies, pots/pans, along with taking care of trash and recycling as required Performs other duties as required JOB QUALIFICATIONS High school graduate or equivalent education is preferred. One-year of experience in commercial cooking or health care food preparation is preferred Ability to prepare/handle food using safe food handling practices Ability to read/write and follow written and oral instructions Basic math skills; Numerical ability necessary to make various computations in keeping records and in recipe preparation Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions Ability to operate food preparation equipment. Able to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions Ability to communicate at all levels, provide instruction and train other employees as required Ability to maintain inventory Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
