School Health Nurse - Public Health Nurse II
Works in the school health program assigned to school site(s.) Provides a variety of community services using a multi-disciplinary approach serving diverse populations in the school community. Services and interventions include outreach which include home/school visits, community assessment, health promotion, education, case finding, care coordination and disease prevention for students, families and communities. Must have a strong working knowledge of computers. Must also participate in the training, supervision and evaluation of unlicensed assistive personnel.
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus one year of work experience in a public health/community health setting; or two years of full-time post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:Possession of a current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Selected positions or area(s) of assignment may require the incumbent to possess a valid motor vehicle driver's license. Cardio-Pulmonary Certification to be obtained within one year of appointment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry, a driving record check, and a check with the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) to the satisfaction of the employer.
Experience providing health services to school aged-children, excellent communication skills, experience working with ethnically diverse populations and working on interdisciplinary teams.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to drive a vehicle. All duties perform with or without reasonable accommodations.
