In 2010, the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC), a grassroots advocacy organization, launched Breast Cancer Deadline 2020®, with a goal of knowing how to end breast cancer by January 1, 2020. NBCC’s blueprint for Breast Cancer Deadline 2020® is a strategic plan of action for knowing how to prevent the development and spread of breast cancer. Since 1991, NBCC has been at the vanguard of the breast cancer movement – elevating breast cancer to an issue of national significance, leveraging billions of federal dollars for research and care, and empowering tens of thousands of breast cancer survivors to become effective advocates for themselves, and for all those at risk of breast cancer.
The Finance Manager will oversee the daily function of the Finance Department and management of NBCC’s financial resources, with a strong focus on generating and analyzing financial reports for department staff, funders, NBCC's Board of Directors and other internal and external parties. The Finance Manager monitors the implementation of accounting and administrative policies and procedures and ensures organizational compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Chief of Staff; the Finance Manager, in conjunction with COO-COS, will work with the NBCC staff to ensure that all financial policies and procedures are disseminated, updated and adhered to, coordinate with Development and Communications Department staff to ensure that information is flowing promptly and accurately and report noncompliance to the COO, COS. Serve as staff liaison and field inquiries regarding every facet of accounting including policies and procedures, reporting, taxes, budget, A/P, A/R and payroll-related accounting. Prepare financial and budget reports and analyses for COO-COS, President, Senior Staff and other staff as needed. Prepare financial statements for Board Meetings with notes detailing variances. Interface with financial institutions to obtain balance information, prepare monthly cash flow reports and resolve issues. Prepare all schedules for the annual audit and 990 tax filing. Reconcile bank statements and other balance sheet accounts monthly. Reconcile financial records with those of the Development department monthly and resolve discrepancies. Coordinate all state registration filings to ensure timely filing. Prepare Lobbying Reports quarterly.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and minimum of seven (7) years financial management experience required. Background in nonprofit organizations is highly preferred. Knowledge of and experience with computerized accounting and spreadsheet programs, preferably QuickBooks and Microsoft Office, is required; Raiser’s Edge experience a plus. Must possess excellent communication, organization & customer service skills.
