.To qualify for the GS-5 Student Trainee (Government Information Specialist) position you must:
Be accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year college or university, or graduate or professional school; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate on at least a half-time basis.
Maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 or greater. (G.P.A.'s are rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.45 rounds to 2.5 and 2.44 rounds to 2.4).
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes, but is not limited to, experience operating a personal computer and related equipment, such as printers, photocopiers and facsimiles; experience maintaining a filing system both electronic and hard copy to include updating and purging the files on a regular basis; using computers to develop correspondence, memos, forms and other standardized documents. Experience researching information, reviewing forms and other documents for completeness.
B. Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree, in an accredited college or university. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours.
C. Combination of Education and Experience: Applicants that possess a percentage of the required specialized experience and a percentage of the required education such that, when the percentages of the required education and specialized experience are added together, they equal 100%. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e. beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.

Although veteran preference points will not be assigned under the student vacancy, veteran preference eligibles will be listed ahead of non-veterans.
