- One year at the GS-9 level performing duties such as reviewing and evaluating reports of investigations or other security information to determine if individuals meet security requirements; determining the adequacy and completeness of moderately complex personnel security investigations (e.g., NAC, NACI, MBI); ensuring compliance with personnel security requirements; OR
- A Ph.D. or equivalent degree or three years of graduate level education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university; OR
- A combination of successfully completed graduate level education in excess of two year and required experience.
You qualify for the GS-12 level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent performing duties such as:
- Adjudicating complex personnel security investigations (e.g., BI, SSBI);
- Examining security legislation and regulations to evaluate and make recommendations on personnel security programs and policies; and
- Reviewing reports of investigations to identify the presence or absence of derogatory information and compliance with national standards.
- Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
- Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 04/19/2018.
Background Investigation: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment in order to promote the agency's core values of vigilance, service to country, and integrity. Residency: If you are not currently a CBP employee, you must meet one or more of the following primary residency criteria for at least three years prior to applying to this announcement:
- Resided in the United States or its protectorate or territories (excluding short trips abroad, such as vacations);
- Worked for the United States government as an employee overseas in a federal or military capacity; or
- Been a dependent of a United States federal or military employee serving overseas.
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.

Security Clearance: You may be required to obtain a Secret or higher level clearance for this position.
