- Physical Requirements: Most of the work performance is at a desk, in an office setting. The incumbent often carries books and papers to and from meetings and conferences. It is highly likely that the incumbent may have to travel between office buildings for meetings, which will involve going outside during various elements of weather.
In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR PHYSICIAN
- U.S. citizenship
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in the District of Columbia. The Physician must maintain a current registration to continue employment with the VA.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association, or other residences which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided appropriate professional training.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of VA for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- U.S. citizenship
- Successful completion of a Master Degree or higher in course of study from an accredited college or university with a major study in an academic field related to healthcare such as Psychology, Social Work, Nursing or other healthcare related fields
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
Applicants must possess extensive leadership experience in the health care arena sufficient to qualify for the equivalent of a senior executive position within the Federal service, including significant experience with patient advocacy, strategic planning, policy development, financial management, and staff development. Expert-level knowledge of current concepts in health care such as communicating and providing large scale guidance on health care policy to internal and external stakeholders, defining and evaluating new policy recommendations that directly impact health care provided to patients, overseeing senior leadership who are responsible for oversight of national health care facilities, analyzing information and data to identify improvement opportunities to reduce barriers to health care service and improving patient experience, developing standards to monitor the quality of patient experience, and experience implementing best practices in customer service/service recovery on a national level are also essential.
In addition to the education requirements, applicants should possess the following technical qualifications and Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) required for this position. Typically, these qualifications would be gained through education, experience and training which reflect progressive development and achievement in responsible management/executive level assignments in a health care at a national or Network level such as If you are currently a federal employee, this type of experience is typically found at positions the GS-15 level and above.

- ECQ 5. BUILDING COALITIONS: Ability to build coalitions internally and with other Federal agencies, State and local governments, nonprofit and private sector organizations, foreign governments, or international organizations to achieve common goals. - 7-10 Years of experience working with or working for patient advocacy organizations and related groups
