The George Mason University, University Career Services is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person for Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives. The Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives leads office and division-wide efforts to scale career services, expand experiential learning opportunities and support fundraising efforts.

They will serve on the University Career Services Leadership Team and provide innovative vision, critical thinking and coordinated management of career development initiatives in both the Career Services and University Life Division strategic plans. They will be responsible for coordinating multiple projects simultaneously and ensuring project goals, project plans, budgets and schedules are established and executed with input and buy-in from key stakeholders and team members.

Duties: Leadership Responsibilities include: * Serve on the career centers leadership team and participate in developing strategic goals/objectives; in evaluating programs and services, assisting in the management of office operations and representing career services to the campus community * Consult and collaborate effectively and regularly with leadership team to share student, industry, employer, and other relevant information and to create/implement services and programs that anticipate or respond to trends in the preparation, recruiting and hiring of students * Engage team members and center staff in determining appropriate delivery of content on professionalism topics, manage services and programs offered to students, on-campus supervisors and employers hosting interns * Analyze and utilize tracked data and assessments to make informed, critical decisions Strategic Initiative Responsibilities include: * Explore options, make recommendations, develop content and lead transition from place-based/live to virtual/24-7 service delivery methods (e.g, IvyBot, videos) * Ensure progress toward office diversity, inclusion and wellbeing goals * Assess needs and design approaches to infuse professionalism (e.g. workplace etiquette) and life skills (e.g. resilience) training into all services and events/programs * Encourage and support campus offices/supervisors to convert existing positions into internships * Manage and enhance Patriot Pipeline Internship Program for Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce member organizations * Manage application and review process for Unpaid Internship Scholarship, as well as develop fundraising strategy to increase the amount/number of scholarships available * Serve as the key champion of student employee recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation through use of the UL Division Student Employee Rubric to further promote student professional development Staff Supervision and Development Responsibilities include: * Supervise Operations and Student Leadership Coordinator (1 staff) and Peer Career Mentor (1-2 graduate students) * Oversee and manage the Peer Career Advisor program (6-12 students); including weekly team meetings, creation of rewards structure for PCAs, and growth/expansion of program to extend outreach capacity through peer-to-peer engagement * Work cohesively with Operations and Student Leadership Coordinator to develop professional development project(s) for all student employees * Provide support and assistance in setting performance goals, reaching goals, and engaging in self-appraisal. Conduct annual appraisals * Encourage and provide opportunities for staff development and growth. Showcase and encourage successful staff effort at the campus, local, regional, and national levels * Continually improve by seeking professional development opportunities/feedback on supervision style and approaches to better enhance staff development, morale, and cohesion Cross-Functional Teams and University Initiatives include: * Serve on various cross-functional teams to promote the vision and direction of University Career Services * Serve as a liaison to university departments as appropriate * Represent Mason and the center in local and national professional associations and conferences in order to stay current with industry standards and changes, revise programs to reflect trends, and increase the centers visibility among professionals in the field * Participate in university committees providing representation of the career center on community issues

Required Qualifications: Masters degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Human Resources or related field. Minimum 5 years experience with experiential learning activities, college/university career services and/or in sourcing college talent for an employer. Experience in counseling, advising, or teaching of students/adults on their career/professional development. Previous experience with virtual service delivery (e.g., webinars, online events, chat). Strong project management skills. A demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion. Experience collecting and analyzing data, and making recommendations for improvements, changes and new initiatives. Exceptional communication (written, oral, presentation).

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience leading teams and developing positive relationships, partnerships, and alliances. Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and to interface effectively with employers, students, alumni, faculty, and university administrators. Experience in effectively prioritizing needs in a complex work environment. Demonstrated problem-solving skills including critical thinking, discretion, negotiation, sound judgment, and conflict management. Ability to embrace and drive change and to organize and manage multiple priorities, programs, and projects both independently and in a team. Demonstrated proficiency designing and delivering presentations and programs virtually. Familiar with social media and ability to use Symplicity, Handshake or other campus career management systems
