Job Description Summary

The Special Programs area of WD&CE at Montgomery College is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member teaching ESOL to Adult Learners in an educational setting located within a Maximum Security Correctional Facility. This particular teaching opportunity is part-time (mornings 8:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. or afternoons 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday) and is located at the Clarksburg Maximum Security jail in Boyds, MD. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated ESOL teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Faculty members will be expected to teach Adult ESOL,  ESOL Literacy, or Civics ESOL classes.                                                   
  • Faculty members will participate in training sessions prior to the class start date.
  • Faculty members will be expected to abide by all College program policies and procedures.
  • Faculty members will be expected to abide by all policies and

              procedures set by the Department of Corrections.

Required Qualifications:

  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field  and a certificate in TESOL.

  • A minimum of two years' experience teaching Adult ESOL.

  • A minimum of 100 hours of training in ESOL.

  • Experience working with a diverse student population.

  • Proven experience in delivery of high quality instruction to limited literacy and language populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree in TESOL or Education with coursework in ESOL Methodology and/or Second Language Acquisition.

  • Completion of a TESOL certificate program.
  • Teaching experience in Adult or Vocational ESOL.
  • Experience providing high quality ESOL instruction in a  correctional setting.  
  • A background in counseling.
