HVAC Fume Hood Chief Position # 112488 Facilities Management at the University of Maryland, College Park, seeks expert senior mechanic to coordinate and perform installation, service, repair and operation of a variety of complex commercial/industrial Fume Hood and control systems, including routine maintenance and emergency service on all controls, alarms, fans and devices found on Fume Hoods and supporting Lab & research systems. Participates in installation, start-up, and commissioning of Fume Hood Systems. The Fume Hood Shop, a subgroup of Mechanical Systems Support, is responsible for maintaining approximately 800+ Fume Hoods and connected ventilation components on the College Park Campus. Also responsible for leading and training less skilled mechanics and other skilled craftspeople. Incumbent must have the ability to efficiently integrate sound mechanical solutions with existing methods to solve problems in a timely fashion with little direction. QUALIFICATIONS: All applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED; a valid Maryland Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent, with fewer than 6 points. Must have a minimum of ten years of trade experience, including experience working with laboratory ventilation with large central exhaust systems, building automation systems and critical ventilation pressure control devices such as Phoenix controllers. Past experience with Phoenix ventilation control hardware and electronics is strongly preferred. Must possess Journeyman’s License or certificate in an applicable trade. SALARY/ BENEFITS: Position is Essential and subject to 24-hour/day, 7-day/week span of operation.
