Substitute Upper School Counselor
Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school, seeks a substitute counselor for its Upper School (grades 9-12). The Counselor works with students, faculty, and parents on issues affecting the mental health and general wellness of the school community and of the community at large. The Counselor serves as a member of a student support team and coordinates all-school and grade specific programs as part of the health and wellness curriculum.
The successful candidate will be excited about, comfortable with and experienced in working in a high school setting. She/he will have a demonstrable history of successfully offering proactive and solution-focused counseling to a range of adolescents in an academically rigorous atmosphere. The candidate should also be skilled in communicating with parents and educators to develop academic plans that meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of students.
Candidates must have a master’s degree in the fields of social work, counseling, school psychology, or clinical psychology as well as appropriate professional licensing credentials and 3-5 years of experience working with 14-18 year old students. This position is temporary, starting in the summer of 2018 and will likely be needed until-mid October 2018. The hours for the position are varied and range from part-time to full time.
