  • To qualify for the Librarian (Automation), PG -1410-9/11, you must meet the following requirements:
    Basic Qualification Requirement (Screen Out)
    All librarians must meet the requirements for professional education in library science or possess equivalent experience and education; as a standard practice applicants enter at grade GS-9 on the basis of a master's degree in library science.
    Additional Education and Experience Requirement for Position at the GS-9 and above:
    For GS-9: Applicants must meet the requirements specified in paragraph A or B below.
    A. Completion of 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B. or J.D., related to the position.
    ----OR----
    B. 1 year equivalent to at least GS-7

    For GS-11: Applicants must meet the requirements specified in paragraph A or B below.
    A) Completion of 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education in library science or doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) related to the position.
    ----OR----
    B) 1 year equivalent to at least GS-9

    NOTE: Equivalent combination of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.

    In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

    Experience Requirement

    To qualify for the PG-09 level, please select the statement below that best describes your highest level of education and/or experience.
    A. I have 1 year of specialized experience at the PG-7 (or equivalent) level or higher. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Utilization of technology skills to assist a system administrator in supporting in integrated library system (ILS) and its users, within a library or information center environment.

    B. I have completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B or J.D., related to the position.
    ----OR----
    C. I have not completed 1 full year of specialized experience as described in option A or the graduate education as described in option B above, but I have an equivalent combination of education and experience. The combination of my education and experience equals at least 100% of the total requirement.

    To qualify for the PG-11 level, please select the statement below that best describes your highest level of education and/or experience.
    A. I have 1 year of specialized experience at the PG-9 (or equivalent) level or higher. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Utilization of technology skills to provide systems administration support for an integrated library system (ILS) and its users, within a library or information center environment.

The combination of my education and experience equals at least 100% of the total requirement.

    Applicants must submit a copy (official or unofficial) of their school transcript)s) which document 1) name of the institution, 2) applicant's name, 3) list of completed courses, and 4) cumulative GPA. Education must have been obtained through studies in an accredited college or university.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement(04/19/2018) to be considered.

    GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
    FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.     Background Investigation:
    To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a suitability. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.
