Montgomery College, Germantown, has need for a full-time, Biotechnology Program Manager I, S03092, Chemical and Biological Sciences Department. The normal work schedule is Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and may vary subject to the needs of the program. Schedule will likely include occasional weekends, based on the needs of the department.

The Biotechnology Program Manager provides oversight, leadership, and guidance for the development and implementation of programs and activities that support the Biotechnology program. The manager is responsible for significant grant management activities, youth programming (K-12), as well as coordinating and developing programs/courses with internal and external workforce development agencies. The manager is also responsible for establishing relationships with external constituencies such as educational institutions and private industry.Job Description

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and manage non-credit biotechnology related offerings, build required courses within the Workforce Development & Continuing Education course development structure, conduct instructor recruitment, monitor and evaluate teacher effectiveness and student success.  Develop and manage for non-credit biotechnology related courses, the Workforce Development & Continuing Education budget, price programs, negotiate contracts, submit program projections, write instructor training documents, course development, and arrange for a bidding process when necessary.
  • Identify community and industry interests and needs within and outside the credit course offerings through needs assessment and engagement with outside groups, including but not limited to industry representatives and advisory boards.
  • Initiate new programs and support ongoing ones such as student research, special speakers, internships, student clubs, field trips, open houses etc.
  • Negotiate with companies and other institutions to allow access to Montgomery College biotechnology equipment when appropriate; arrange for and ensure financial compensation to Montgomery College through training agreements and other means.
  • Develop and manage youth programming (K-12) in collaboration with educational and industry partners, develop activities and outcomes and ensure appropriate staffing and resources.
  • Collaborate with four-year higher education institutions to enhance opportunities for biotechnology students and faculty and provide opportunities for engagement that support student success as well as establish and maintain pathways for students to enter the Montgomery College certificate program.
  • Establish relationships with external constituencies including secondary schools, colleges, universities, and local industry to market the College's biotechnology assets.
  • Develop and update marketing materials, including print and web, to market the College's biotechnology program to increase awareness and enrollment.
  • Seek grant funding that supports the biotechnology program's mission and increases the impact of the College's biotechnology credit and non-credit programs and be responsible for the administration and management of funded grant projects.
  • Provide support for publicly or privately funded programs that are part of Montgomery College's course offerings.
  • Attend all Department and Unit meetings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biotechnology, biological sciences, chemistry or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in program management including planning and development, managing, marketing, communications, budget, and supporting programs.
  • Experience analyzing and drafting contract terms and agreements, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience working in a job environment that requires establishing and maintaining relationships with external constituencies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in biotechnology, biological sciences, chemistry or a related field from an accredited college or university or ten or more years of industry experience in one of these fields.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in program management including planning and development, managing, marketing, communications, budget, and supporting programs.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working in the biotechnology private sector.
  • Experience creating marketing materials for both print and web.
