The National Women’s Law Center (the Law Center) seeks an experienced Coalition Manager to support the Child Care Team to win greater federal and state investments in child care to help low-and moderate income families afford high quality child care.
High-quality child care is critical for the prosperity of America’s children, families, and communities. It helps parents be focused and productive at work and children learn and develop the skills they need to succeed in school and life. And by strengthening the current and future workforce, child care helps make the economy stronger. Yet, many families cannot afford—or even find—high-quality child care in their communities. This lack of access to quality child care makes it difficult for parents to work and earn enough to lift their families out of poverty, contributes to family stress and instability, and deprives young children of essential early learning opportunities.
The Coalition Manager will work with the Law Center’s Child Care Team to support a child care campaign to push for progressive policies in child care and early learning.
- Collaborate closely with Child Care Director to organize and manage national coalition meetings and regular calls with state allies.
- Work closely with Child Care Director on advocacy meetings on the Hill.
- Assist in conducting outreach to business community and other potential allies.
- Engage with Law Center partners.
- Organize and plan webinars, roundtables, public speaking opportunities, and other Law Center-hosted events.
- Help plan and manage the child care campaign, including developing and implementing campaign tactics and messaging and project-managing campaign components.
- Provide time-sensitive research and writing.
- Write and disseminate action alerts, digital and especially social media content, campaign materials such as fact sheets and blog posts, toolkits, and other related materials.
- Assist in managing interns.
- Work collaboratively and closely with colleagues in the Communications Department to integrate the child care campaign into other communications activities.
- Manage relationship with consultants and other vendors.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Bachelor’s degree, with at least three years of experience helping manage coalitions, engaging in advocacy on the Hill, or helping manage campaigns, including advocacy, issue, and/or electoral campaign experience.
- The ability to grasp key policy messages and effectively communicate them to a variety of audiences in writing, in person, by phone.
- Experience with progressive issues, in particular with advocacy campaigns, digital campaigns, and/or field organizing.
- Hands-on experience with a wide range of communications tools, such as social media platforms, webinars, action alerts, listservs, and databases.
- Experience with event planning and coordination preferred.
- The ability to be self-directed and work well with competing priorities, meet deadlines, and manage workflow processes involving multiple people.
- Demonstrated experience and judgment working both collaboratively and independently.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and write, edit, and manage distribution of communications quickly.
- Experience with child care issues is a bonus.
- Careful attention to detail is a must.
Salary commensurate with experience.
