The School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the George Washington University is seeking a Financial Analyst within the Health Sciences Division. Reporting to the Financial Director - Health Sciences, the Financial Analyst will support the Finance Director in all aspects of GW Health Sciences financial management for up to (2-3) responsibility centers (functional or academic) including: budgeting, resource planning, forecasting, financial analyses, business plan development, routine procurement and expense review, oversight of accounts receivable and accounts payable activities, & compensation management. This position is involved in continuous process improvement and innovation.
Job Duties:
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT & ANALYSES
-Oversee staff processing of financial transactions for assigned Health Sciences responsibility centers (requisitions, payment requests, hiring, payroll, expense reports, accounts receivable, and contract transactions).
-Monitor accounting selections, frequency, and amounts related to transfers, fund flows, and revenue/expenses to align with financial plans for each responsibility center.
-Prepare periodic financial reports for review with key internal stakeholders within each responsibility center.
-Prepare analyses of major variances related to yearly run rate, budget utilization, and change in forecast, etc.
-Prepare both routine and ad¬hoc reports/data sets from enterprise systems and Cognos data warehouse related to general ledger, payroll, research awards, development, enrollment, course registration.
-Lead departmental monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities, projections, reporting and appropriate journal entries.
TUITION MANAGEMENT & ENROLLMENT FORECASTING
-Works with SMHS Leadership in revenue recognition and attribution process. Maintains and updates Health Sciences Tuition model.
-Partner with Health Sciences Enrollment Management and Academic Planning service lines to prepare enrollment & credit hour forecasts for current/new academic programs and pipelines.
COMPENSATION MANAGEMENT
-Works with SMHS Leadership in Compensation planning, labor modeling and general ledger reconciliation.
-Maintains Health Sciences compensation model for assigned responsibility centers.
PRO FORMA AND BUSINESS/INVESTMENT PLANNING
-Meets with SMHS stakeholders to lead developing and implementing pro forma (5) year, (1) year, and current year financial plans as part of the SMHS planning cycle for assigned areas
-Prepare business and investment cases as assigned for new academic programs, centers, capital projects, pipelines, strategic partnerships, etc
SPECIAL PROJECTS
-Performs special projects and participates in working groups related but not limited to strategic initiatives, data management, business intelligence, & process improvements .
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master’s degree of higher in a relevant area os study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree is preferred. Must have excellent Excel and financial modeling skills (Pivot tables, PowerPivot, Lookups). Preferred skills include familiarity with database design/querying, data visualization in Power BI or Tableau, and a programming language.
