Basic Course Coordinator
The Department of Communication at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Term Instructor position in Communication. The initial term of appointment is for one twelve-month contract (June 25 2018 through June 24 2019) with contract renewal contingent on satisfactory performance. Responsibilities: The Basic Course Coordinator position entails working with the Basic Course Director to manage all aspects of the introductory communication courses in the Mason Core (the universitys General Education program) as well as teaching two courses each regular semester and one course in the summer session. The Basic Course Coordinator will assist the Basic Course Director with instructor hiring and training, curriculum development and design, and managing course documentation. The Basic Course Coordinator will also assist with the development of and management of the Communication Center that will support the introductory courses. Coordinator duties include providing instructional support, availability for responding to instructor and student questions and concerns, managing the day-to-day logistics of the program, reviewing transfer equivalency requests, managing the quiz-out process, and other related tasks as needed.
- A masters degree in communication or related field.
- Experience teaching the introductory communication course.
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications:
- Academic training in communication pedagogy, instructional communication and/or communication assessment.
- Familiarity and/or experience with best practices in communication administration, communication centers, and assessment.
- Experience teaching in hybrid or fully online contexts as well as face-to-face contexts.
- Expertise in effectively integrating technology into teaching and learning; experience using Blackboard is especially valuable.
