Westat's research, technical, and administrative staff of more than 2,000 is located at our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC.

Job Summary:

Westat has an opening for an experienced, health services researcher who is interested in working on multidisciplinary teams that support health services research and evaluation projects for federal, state, and other clients.

Job Responsibilities:

· Contribute to the design and management of research studies using various methods, and writing business proposals. · Work with Medicaid and/or Medicare claims data and other national and/or state databases to analyze health care utilization, costs, and other outcomes (health, quality of care, employment and insurance status, etc.) · Work with “big data” sets that may require basic formatting, cleaning, and other common corrections required of bid, raw datasets. · Perform evaluation design, preparing analytic plans, developing healthcare quality and performance measures, and writing analytic reports.

Basic Qualifications:

· A Ph.D. degree in Health Policy or other social science discipline (e.g. economics, public policy) with 2 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree in a similar discipline with 10 years of relevant experience is required. · Subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas is required: behavioral health, Medicaid and Medicare policy, low-income populations and those with serious mental illness, and substance use/abuse - especially opiod abuse, as well as publication in these domains.
Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, experience from basic to complex SAS and/or Stata programming, and writing up results of these analyses. Experience working on federal and/or state research contracts is a plus.
