Job Description: Sentara Leigh Hospital

Sentara Leigh Hospital is a Magnet Status, 250-bed facility featuring all patient-friendly private rooms and specializing in orthopedic, gynecological and urological services. Sentara Leigh offers a contemporary care environment for general medical/surgical and ambulatory services and is home to the orthopedic hospital, which has 48 beds dedicated to specialized orthopedic care. The hospital offers a full-service Emergency Room with a dedicated observation unit, Critical Care, GI, and Oncology services. It also encompasses a Family Maternity Center.

The HVAC Mechanic is experienced in all phases of air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating. This individual inspects, repairs and maintains HVAC systems in addition to maintaining parts, supplies and equipment. Responsible for following the operational and departmental guidelines, and for meeting all regulatory and compliance requirements, e.g. OSHA.

Education Level
High School Grad or Equivalent OR
Trade School Graduate

Required: HVAC - 3 years

Preferred: None, unless noted in the “Other” section below

Required: Drivers License, Refrig Trans and Recov Typ-I, Refrig Trans and Recov Typ-II

Preferred: Journeyman Heating Vent and AC

Required: Active Listening, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equipment Maintenance, Equipment Selection, Installation, Leadership, Microsoft Office, Monitoring, Repairing, Service Orientation, Troubleshooting

In addition to High School Graduate or equivalent, 1 year post-secondary/vocational training in air conditioning, refrigeration, math, physics, chemistry, and basic mechanics is preferred. Candidate must be proficient with direct digital controls (DDC). Universal certification preferred. Journeyman's license for Heating Vent and AC must be attained by the end of the first year of employment.
