The candidate will work under the general supervision of the Director of Accounting and Chief Financial Officer in collaboration with other directors to be responsible for the accurate and timely filing of regulatory disclosures for the Federal Election Commission, Internal Revenue Service and other regulatory agencies.  This role is responsible for supporting the coding of transactions for political reporting and will be active in implementing cross-departmental policies that support the Union’s goal of having a highly effective financial and political operation.  The candidate will assist senior management with the annual budget process along with the reporting and monitoring of all political contributions and campaign costs.

Responsiblities:

  • Ensure the timely and accurate maintenance of accounting transactions within multiple political funds;
  • Support the development of the campaign budget and tracking of revenue and expenditures;
  • Analyze and reconcile accounts and projects; manage cash disbursements and receipts and the required reporting for cash transactions
  • Develop internal management or other ad hoc reports to inform key decisions and track the status of all filing deadlines
  • Process and code funding transfers based on regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures;
  • Coordinate reporting functions across departments and other teams to ensure cohesiveness, accuracy and support across the organization
  • Responsible for data migration between systems and the accurate reporting of all political funds;
  • Responsible for written communications and correspondence in response to inquiries related to campaign funds and political contributions;
  • Perform research regarding political activity and transactions; collaborate with auditors, legal counsel, or other personnel as necessary
  • Prepare and submit timely FEC reports, IRS filings, federal and state independent expenditure reports, quarterly PAC  and other political account reports using current GP accounting system and FEC systems;
  • Prepare and execute transactions to conform to GAAP, AFT policies, IRS regulations, FEC regulations and DOL requirements;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Primary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a B.S. /B.A. in accounting, finance or business and be familiar with applicable tax laws and other governmental regulations; CPA or MBA is a plus
  • Familiarity with unions or non-profit associations is highly desirable;
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and DC laws and regulations highly desirable;
  • Knowledge of IRS and FEC regulations in relation to PACs and other political accounts is highly desirable;
  • Familiarity with standard accounting software is essential; experience with GP Dynamics is beneficial;
  • Advanced skill level with Microsoft Office software.
  • Excellent mathematical aptitude and analytical skills with attention to detail;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Professional and collegial work style with ability to work collaboratively; and
  • Able to maintain a high-level of confidentiality and discretion.
