Assistant Dean, Liberal Studies - School of Continuing Studies

Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies (SCS) offers graduate programs in professional and liberal studies, more than 30 professional certificate programs, custom and corporate training and education, summer school and special programs, and the University's only part-time bachelor's program. By pairing seasoned scholars and practitioners with innovative educational programming, SCS prepares you with the skills needed to succeed in today's evolving business landscape.

 The Assistant Dean of Liberal Studies manages the administrative operations for academic programs within the Liberal Studies degree program portfolio. S/he provides leadership and support in the areas of faculty services, management, student experience, and programmatic administrative execution. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Liberal Studies, the Assistant Dean has duties that include but are not limited to:

Academic Operations Management

  • Provides direct oversight of the Program Director and/or Program Manager within the Liberal Studies portfolio.
  • Directs staff members to perform actions for the student community which could include but is not limited to the monitoring of the student pipeline and events management.
  • Contributes and provides strategic guidance in troubleshooting academic and administrative issues for the program(s) in conjunction with the Associate Dean, Liberal Studies.
  • Participates in the admissions process as needed and supports all marketing initiatives for the Liberal Studies portfolio.
  • Supports the course scheduling process for all programs within Liberal Studies.
  • Provides support in the management of semester-by-semester execution of contracting for adjunct faculty members and advisors.
  • Provides administrative oversight in the collection and distribution of syllabi as mandated by the academic calendar; and in the process for online course development and revisions for the program courses.

Academic Advising

  • Oversees academic advising for the Doctor of Liberal Studies and Master of Arts in Liberal Studies students.
  • Oversees the administration of thesis process.
  • Works directly with Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) and Doctor of Liberal Studies (DLS) students on the submission process for their theses to ensure the end product meets University standards.

Project Management

  • Provides strategic support for program development projects which could include: leading a task force on specific program initiatives which could include communications, events, enrollment management, or student advising.
  • Supports projects related to fulfilling the set objectives related to those task forces.
  • Oversees the Senior Citizen Auditor Program.

Budget and Financials

  • Manages the programmatic budgets and collaborates with the Associate Dean, events team, and CFO of SCS in making financial decisions for the programs.
  • With assistance from program staff, performs the monthly and annual budgets to actuals reporting, paying particular attention to the reconciliations of scholarships associated with gifts and grants.
  • Monitors program's events budgets and Pro Card usage.

Requirements

  • Master's degree
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suite
  • Exceptional organizational and communication abilities
  • Willingness to take initiative and lead others
  • Flexibility and the ability to balance competing objectives
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to network with various markets

Preferred qualifications

  • 5 or more years of work experience in a professional or academic setting preferred
  • Experience in developing, executing or participating in online education would be valuable
  • Professional and/or academic experience in business or management industries is desired
