The Director of Advancement of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA is responsible for spearheading the development and implementation of a thoughtful and comprehensive advancement strategy for the Archdiocese, in concert with identified strategic priorities and objectives, and for leading the continued expansion, growth and level of professionalism of all Advancement efforts and programs. Located in Washington, DC, the position is responsible for the oversight and management of all daily operations of the Advancement Office. Reporting the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Advancement serves as an articulate, enthusiastic, and visible representative for the AMS and its mission and actively seeks, identifies, initiates, and cultivates relationships with individuals—and organizations, as appropriate—to increase overall AMS fundraising, short-term and long-term. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Leads, manages and supervises the daily operations of the Advancement Office; supervises the Associate Director of Annual Giving, Donor Data Administrator, Donor Stewardship Coordinator, Advancement Coordinator, and Advancement intern. With participation from the Executive Director for Major Gifts and Planned Giving, leads the effort in setting annual fundraising goals. Responsible for meeting approved goals and for the final review of the Advancement annual budget and the on-going review of income and expenses. Collaborates with the Chief Financial Officer on the tracking of all fundraising and related reports. Overall responsibility for the continued growth of the acquisition and renewal programs; working closely with the Associate Director of Annual Giving, leads the effort to develop and implement a thoughtful, strategic plan for direct mail, renewal and acquisition, online and recurring gift programs, and related program budgets and yearly revenue/expenditure projections. Leads and manages the annual Appeal to Priests and Combined Federal Campaign. Sets fundraising goals, creates appeal schedule, and implements processes to meet those goals. Responsible for drafting, review, and timely production and distributin of all campaign materials. Oversees the cultivation of donors through the implementation and continued development of the Donor Recognition Societies, working with the Associate Director of Annual Giving. Leads the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Archdiocesan Annual Benefit in Washington, DC and initiates, plans, implements, and evaluates other regional fundraising events as approved throughout the United States. For the Annual Benefit and regional events, individually responsible for donations of food, beverage, or other services. Serves as the Advancement representative in the planning and implementation of the Annual Memorial Mass and reception. Serves as primary point of contact for Advancement vendors, including but not limited to, list brokers, printers, and gift processing caging company. Responsible for managing these relationships for the purpose of accountability for contracted services and for the termination or identification of alternative providers as needed. With the exception of letters sent by the Archbishop, reviews letters sent to acknowledge all gifts made to the Archdiocese. Is responsible for coordinating technical training for Advancement staff members with vendors; provides training on all Advancement processes, including acknowledgment letters, check batching, credit card transactions, letter merging, applying pledges, soft credits, and other technical processes; maintains updated documentation of all Advancement training guides. Develops and maintains a positive and collaborative working relationship with the Chief Financial Officer and Finance Office staff. Regularly briefs the Archbishop, Vicar General, and other senior leadership on the activities of the Advancement Office. Maintains respectful relationships with clergy, staff, chaplains, donors, volunteers, and friends of the military and the Church. Ensures Advancement representation on the AMS Data Governance Committee; responsible for providing a donor-centric fundraising/advancement perspective related to the capture and use of all AMS benefactor information captured or actively solicited, with the goal of enhanced donor engagement. Has familiarity with processing and batching check and credit card donations (as well as wire transfers) and the accurate and timely acknowledgement of those gifts. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. Minimum Five years progressive experience in non-profit advancement; prior grant writing experience preferred. Proven effective leader, skilled manager, and supervisor. Prior experience with Salesforce, or the ability to learn a new system quickly, is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Commitment to the values and mission of the Archdiocese with a comprehensive understanding of the Catholic Church and military life and structure. A self-starter with initiative and follow through even when no one is overseeing her/his work; seeks opportunities for collaboration and cooperation across AMS offices. Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communications skills, both written and verbal. Detail-oriented with excellent organization skills, including the ability to manage multiple demands and/or projects simultaneously. Proven leader; skilled manager and supervisor. Able to apply sound judgment, maintain the confidentiality of proprietary data, and conduct oneself with integrity and focus. Flexibility to attend and staff evening and weekend events as required. Sense of humor and comfort level in working in a fast-paced environment. Desire to work collaboratively and with spirit of teamwork and collaboration.
