RN/Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery
SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Providesdirect nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures andprotocols of the healthcare organization. * Assesses, plansand evaluates patient care needs including obtaining patient history. * Carriesout physician orders. Rounds with physicians. * Caresfor patients requiring fetal assessment/fetal monitoring. * Manages thepatient's pain including epidural and patient controlled analgesia. * Administersprescribed medications and monitors vital signs. * Assistsphysician during delivery, treatment, examination and surgical procedures. * Servesas the primary coordinator for the interdisciplinary team. * Monitors,records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizingcomputerized documentation systems. * Instructs andeducates patients and families. * Encourages FamilyCentered Care. * Has expertknowledge on supporting mothers who breastfeed. * Provides age andculturally appropriate care. * Orients andmentors new staff members. * Follows StandardPrecautions using personal protective equipment as required. QUALIFICATIONS: Will have knowledge of antepartum andintrapartum nursing along with postpartum couplet care. Customer service abilities includingeffective listening skills. Critical thinking skills, decisivejudgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast pacedenvironment. Ability to perform work that requiresfrequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting ofpatients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds. EDUCATION: Graduateof an accredited school of professional nursing required. BSNdegree preferred. LICENSURE: Current licensure as an RN in VA required. Current certification as an AHA BLSHealthcare Provider required and NRP required within 3 months of hire. EXPERIENCE: 1 year of Labor& Delivery experience required. 2 or more years ofLabor & Delivery experience preferred. Experience with high-risk ante partum care preferred. Certification in obstetrics or mother/baby nursingpreferred.
