Dean of Arts and Humanities Harford Community College has served as an anchor institution in Harford County since its inception in 1957. We are a mid-sized, comprehensive college committed to serving our community through high caliber educational offerings and cultural events. As we celebrated our 60th anniversary, Harford Community College embarked on a journey to examine and reset its foundation. To that end, we recently became an Achieving the Dream institution, are working with Campus Works to redesign our student experience, and are actively building a strong data infrastructureA cents € "all in preparation for a 2019 strategic plan that will launch Harford Community College into the future. Our beautiful, 352-acre campus is located in the heart of vibrant Harford County, Maryland, and conveniently located near Baltimore, MD; Philadelphia, PA; Washington, DC; and Wilmington, DE. We offer more than 70 affordable degree and certificate programs to nearly 2,000 full-time and 7,500 part-time students, as well as a wide variety of noncredit continuing education courses to nearly 11,000 students per year. This is an inaugural position that was developed as a part of our College's evolution of the Academic Affairs Division. We're seeking a strong leader who holds a vision of what the future of higher education will hold for arts and humanities. The College is seeking an experienced and collaborative administrator to provide leadership and oversight of College's Arts and Humanities Division. This is an inaugural role at an institution responding to dynamic student needs through intentional reflection and evolution. This division will encompass programs including Art and Design, Music, Photography, Theater, Mass Communications, English, Foreign Languages, Transitional Studies (Reading & Writing) and History. The Dean supervises and evaluates approximately 28 full-time faculty, a group of adjunct faculty, and full- and part-time staff members; and oversees the Division's faculty promotion and tenure processes. The Dean is responsible for administrative leadership and oversight of an academic division by managing academic programs and demonstrating high-level leadership behaviors that personify alignment with the mission, vision and values of the institution. This is accomplished by: managing academic programs, including providing leadership in academic strategic planning, originating curriculum development and innovation, and program discipline review; utilizing data analytics for strategic decision making; effective budget development and maintenance; championing the use of technology as it relates to pedagogy and course management; recommending faculty and staff hiring and overseeing professional development; assessing learning outcomes; and participating in the constant pursuit of the improvement of student retention, learning, and goal achievement.A' This is an exempt, administrator position reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.A' A master's degree in a discipline offered within the Division and five or more years of increasingly responsible management and supervisory experience are required. Applicants must have five years of full-time teaching experience with demonstrated excellence in evaluating student outcomes, reflecting on teaching practice, and providing leadership in curriculum and instruction. A doctorate and/or experience as a chairperson or equivalent role at a community college are preferred. Applicants should have demonstrated ability and experience in the following areas: working collaboratively with multiple constituencies, including faculty, staff, and community stakeholders to create vision and enact direction for the academic programming within the Division and at the College, and to align priorities of the academic programs with the strategic plan and overall mission of the College; innovating academic programs; HCC is accredited by Middle States and is participating in programs associated with progressive academic leadership; demonstrating dedication to the exploration and use of new pedagogies, including cutting-edge technology to deliver, enhance and assess learning; and effectively implement best practices in curriculum, planning, management, and instruction, particularly in response to national trends in teaching and learning; embracing the continual use of data to improve program and student learning outcomes while fostering a culture of engagement with data analysis and decision making among all members of the Division, including both faculty and staff; providing flexible and responsive leadership of faculty and staff and in managing growth while setting clear expectations and encouraging holistic professional development; recognizing strong performance and addressing performance issues, providing constructive feedback for improvement, and scaffolding employee excellence; embracing equity and inclusion as guiding principles and capitalizing on variability and unique perspectives to achieve program, Division, and College goals; creating a positive, productive, and pluralistic work environment that supports a diverse faculty, staff, and student community; practicing team oriented behavior and demonstrating grit, courage, tenacity, integrity, and patience in the face of challenges; utilizing a growth mindset when devising creative, comprehensive, and compassionate responses to student, faculty, and community concerns.
