  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-12: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level. Specialized experience includes: developing, writing, editing and reviewing documents; editing correspondence leaving an office for grammar, readability, and consistency with policy; editing correspondence for grammatical correctness, clarity, appropriate reading level, and consistency with regulations, style and format requirements; developing and composing documents on a spectrum of issues (some sensitive) for a wide variety of audiences and occasions; researching and verifying factual information and writing material in approved formats and in language suitable for the general public; collecting, displaying, analyzing, and interpreting data; knowledge of regulations and policies affecting health care and legislative programs, practices, and standards; and communicating verbally and in writing to convey information and to advise management of program activities. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit.

    IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.     Physical Requirements: The work of this position is primarily sedentary; however walking, standing, bending, and lifting are customary physical demands of this position. Travel may also be required. The work is generally performed in an administrative office setting, which is adequately lighted and climate controlled.

    Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
