General Summary:

Responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the materials distribution systems. Manage issues for determination and resolution. Assists with organizational/departmental planning as- it relates to the materials management system and process flow. Develops, educates, and implements all procedures related to the organizational use of the materials management system. Maintains the Materials Management Information System (MMIS) and coordinates with purchasing on storeroom replenishment issues. Manages material management staffs daily schedule, and operational changes. Key point of contact for department issues and represents Materials Management on various hospital teams and committees. Manages, plans, and maintains materials management budget.

Work Schedule

Full-time; 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday day shift


Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Manages the effective and efficient operation of the materials management system.

Ability to work independently and make critical decisions based off of reports and data that come from the automated inventory management systems that will lead to superior outcomes.

Responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of inventory.

Reviews daily reports and statistical data for correctness and quality assurance, identifying issues and corrective action for process improvements.

Performs daily assessment of inventory to ensure safe and economical on-hand and/or on-order values. Remains current on new and obsolete inventory.

Investigates and solves complex and unique problems as they occur to maintain the proper functionality of processes as specified in department business practices, as well as problems that relate to inventory management.

Maintains an ongoing knowledge associated with operational and technical aspects of the purchasing and supply system.

Understand and practices the mission, vision and values of organization.

Supervises all activities of the department: receiving, stockroom, and distribution of inventory.

Performs cycle counts and leads year-end physical inventory as needed.

Attends meetings when scheduled

Required to plan and schedule work for staff in the Materials Management Department, which includes and is not limited to the review and approval of time off, ensuring that the department is always staffed according to need.

Provides training as needed

Communicates departmental issues and anything that can affect the organization negatively to supervisor.

Communicates all supply issues to customers throughout hospital.

Provides high level of customer service


College degree or 4 years experience in materials management healthcare setting

Two years experience in information systems.

Two years experience with materials management distribution systems.

Advanced proficiency in PC software such as the Microsoft Office as well as maintaining databases and spreadsheets.

Previous supervisory experience.

Displays good interpersonal skills.

Ability to handle a multi-task environment.
