Marymount University invites applications and nominations for the Founding Dean of the School of Sciences, Mathematics and Education. Marymount is an independent, coeducational Catholic university offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in a wide range of disciplines. The University, founded in 1950 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM), was, and remains, Virginia’s only Catholic university and emphasizes intellectual curiosity, service to others, and a global perspective.

Located in Arlington, Virginia, directly across the Potomac River and short Metro ride away from Washington, D.C., Marymount offers easy access to the city’s diverse political, historical, international, and cultural resources. The University consists of the main campus, located on 21 verdant, rolling acres in the north end of Arlington; the brand new, $75 million-dollar Ballston Center; and 4040 Fairfax Drive. All three campuses are within a three-mile radius.

With strong enrollment and retention, ongoing capital improvements, and a successful $40 million-dollar capital campaign nearing completion, Marymount has never been stronger and is poised for continued growth. A strong liberal learning core forms the foundation for the wealth of degree programs offered through Marymount’s four academic schools. The University serves approximately 3,375 students (2,305 undergraduate and 1,070 graduate students) and has a student-faculty ratio of 13:1. Marymount University ranks first for ethnic diversity among Regional Universities in the South, is ranked #52 in Regional Universities South, #29 in Best Colleges for Veterans, and #63 in Best Value Schools by U.S. News & World Report.

The newly aligned School of the Sciences, Mathematics and Education (currently the School of Education and Human Services) will be home to 51 full-time and 66 part-time and adjunct faculty in the following disciplines: Biology, Biochemistry, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Education, Forensic & Legal Psychology, Mathematics, Multidisciplinary Studies, Psychology and Sociology. The School will have an enrollment of approximately 536 undergraduate and 484 graduate students and a budget of $7 million.

The Founding Dean of the School of Sciences, Mathematics and Education is the chief academic officer for the school, responsible for strategy and operations to ensure the strongest possible learning outcomes for students. Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs & Enrollment Management, the dean will focus on all aspects of the School’s leadership and management, particularly enrollment management, long-term faculty development, the cultivation of external partnerships, and the development of an inclusive academic vision.
