You qualify for the GS-8 grade level (starting salary $50,912) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-7 grade level performing all of the following duties: 1) preparing personnel actions by determining pay, authority code, nature of action codes, and appropriate remarks in a HR information system; 2) counseling employees on benefit entitlements such as health insurance, life insurance, Thrift Savings Plan, etc.; 3) reconciling payroll related issues; and 4) providing information on human resources related matters.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. This appointment is being field under the Robert A Stafford Act and is not to exceed two years with the possibility of a two year extension, totaling four years.
