  • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-13: At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-12 or its equivalent). Examples of specialized experience includes working in a managerial capacity in a food and beverage facility where association with protocol and dealing with the highest level of ranking military, civilian, and foreign dignitaries was required; extensive experience working with proper methods of preparation of American and International cuisine and its presentation, including expertise of tabletop service; and, work where the incumbent gained comprehensive knowledge of accounting, budget and supply procedures and the ability to develop, plan, and execute financial capital and expenditure budget. Other specialized experience could come from work where the incumbent gained comprehensive knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations and recommended improvements; experience working in Senior Leadership Dining Facilities; and work where the incumbent supervised a large staff and implemented EO rules and regulations.

    FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-12 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
    1. Knowledge of all facets of Food Services and Catering
    2. Knowledge of safety, security and EEO regulations, practices and procedures.
    3. Skill in preparing written forms, schedules and reports related to the obligation and expenditures of funds
    4. Ability to present oral formal briefings, participate in informal discussions, and prepare written information clearly, concisely and effectively.
    5. Ability to use commercial office software packages.
    6. Ability to plan, organize and assign time-critical projects and assess results.
    7. Ability to manage the work operations of multiple organizational segments to meet program requirements, goals, and objectives within available resources.
    8. Ability to plan, organize and direct the functions and staff of a small sized organization.
    9. Ability to analyze, plan, organize, direct and adjust the functions and supervise, mentor, motivate and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
    10. Ability to make oral presentations on the budget, and conduct budget-related training to a variety of audiences.

    PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
