IDS Specialist (Intellectual Property)

Large national law firm specializing in Business, Employment, Intellectual Property, Litigation, and Tax Law seeks an IDS Specialist to join their IP Services Department and provide support to the Firm’s patent prosecution practice.  The IDS Specialist will report to a Patent Supervisor.


  • Supporting the patent prosecution practice with regard to duty of disclosure requirements, including the preparation and filing of Information Disclosure Statements (IDS)
  • Corresponding with non-U.S. agents regarding references cited in related applications
  • Communicating with clients regarding status of patent matters and related activities
  • Processing incoming files transferred to the Firm
  • Preparing reports related to patent prosecution activities, including client status reports and docket reports
  • Ensuring accurate record-keeping related to patent prosecution activities, including maintaining the IP prosecution docket and saving correspondence / documents in the Firm’s document management system
  • Capturing billable time in the Firm’s timekeeping system (annual goal of 1,200 hours)
  • Maintaining current, up-to-date knowledge of Intellectual Property rules and regulations
  • Providing excellent service to internal and external clients


  • Associate’s degree OR work experience equivalent with at least five (5) years of patent prosecution experience
  • Thorough understanding of worldwide Intellectual Property rules and regulations
  • IP docketing systems experience
  • Excellent communication skills so as to be able to interact professionally with attorneys, staff, and clients

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel), and document management systems such as iManage.
