In accordance with National Lutheran s We Care philosophy, the Guiding Principle Core Values, and in alignment with the NLCS culture, the RN Staff Nurse is responsible and accountable for the following:CORE COMPETENCIESReporting to the RN Care Coach, the RN Staff Nurse has primary responsibility and accountability in assisting in the provision of quality comprehensive nursing care to the residents/guests. The core RN Staff Nurse functions including assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of a designated group of residents.Responsible for managing all assigned personnel, supplies and equipment on the unit and for promoting team work. Ensures continuity and quality care on the assigned unitEnsures appropriate in-service education programs are conducted for nursing personnel as determined by resident needs and as required by state/federal regulationsProvides strong supervisory and coaching skills for nursing assistant and medication aide staffPartners in the position on-boarding of Nursing Service Staff; ensure appropriate training on NLCS standards of Nursing Services practices during the orientation of new employeesAssesses residents physical and psychosocial status and environmental needs of assigned residents. Identifies needs for other services/disciplines for residents and intervenes appropriately to secure these servicesDocuments admissions and completes ongoing nursing assessments on assigned residentsDevelops measurable goals, admission and staff plans with physicians, resident, families and interdisciplinary team members. Documents and communicates plans appropriatelyFrom continual assessment, reviews and revises resident care plan needs, concerns and goal changes. Communicates changes with RN Care Coach. Identifies necessary and appropriate nursing interventions pertinent to the plan of careDemonstrates clinical competence to assess the physical, spiritual, psychological and emotional needs of each resident. Intervenes appropriately, requesting physician or other department intervention as appropriate. Ensures that documentation is completed as requiredCollaborates and communicates, with tact and sensitivity, with other team members and departments to coordinate an interdisciplinary approach to resident care. Identifies and interprets the psychological reaction of the residents and takes appropriate action within the time frame necessary. Documents nursing interventions and resident response to care accurately, timely and completelyAdministers resident treatments and procedures in accordance with physician orders and NLCS nursing policies and proceduresAdministers medication and IV fluids skillfully, safely and as requiredHandles crisis situations in a prompt, precise and professional manner. Actively participates in the direct delivery of resident care. Completes rounds to ensure that residents are receiving the appropriate nursing care in an appropriate time frame. Ensures that a safe, comfortable, clean environment is maintainedJOB QUALIFICATIONSDegree in Nursing requiredRegistered Nurse licensed in the state of NLCS community or serviceMinimum 3-5 years of experience in a hospital, long term care facility or other related healthcare facilityExperience supervising nursing assistantsMust possess strong written and oral communication skills; able to maintain confidential informationMust be proficient in Microsoft Office
