Serves as a member of the Human Resources (HR) Leadership Team, developing and implementing human resources policies and programs including: recruiting, hiring and onboarding, immigration processes, training and development, benefits and wellness, employee performance management, and employee relations. Collaborates in developing long-term strategic planning, budgeting, and staffing models. Responsible for oversight of new employee orientation, American Public University System (APUS) policy and procedure updates, employee recognition programs, and monitoring the performance evaluation process. This role has supervisory responsibility for seven employees across the recruiting, training and development, benefits, and wellness functions of the human resources department. Essential Functions: A cents € cents Regularly reviews and makes recommendations for improvement of the organization's policies, procedures, and practices on personnel matters. A cents € cents Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation, and ensures organization's compliance. A cents € cents Responsible for coordinating the selection and administration of company benefits in partnership with external broker(s). A cents € cents Collaborates with HR leadership at subsidiaries as needed to ensure resources are provided for benefits administration and other functions as appropriate. A cents € cents Consults and partners with legal department, as appropriate, on employment and personnel matters. A cents € cents Coordinates various functions to include, but not limited to: job evaluations and job classifications, employee recognition program and employee morale events, and training and development program. A cents € cents Utilizes the Human Capital Management (HCM) system effectively to maintain employee data base and produce and analyze ad-hoc reports as requested. Maintains employee data as required by the law and the company. A cents € cents Acts as a resource to management in resolving discrimination, harassment, performance, and discipline issues. A cents € cents Implements and maintains policies such as corrective discipline and attendance. A cents € cents Responsible for benefits administration, compensation, performance appraisals, and other human resources functions. A cents € cents Manages and coordinates the activities in areas of responsibility to assist managers to achieve full and timely objectives. A cents € cents Makes recommendations relating to human resources to assist with change management throughout the organization. A cents € cents Oversees responses to requests and attends hearings for unemployment compensation claims. A cents € cents Facilitates employee relations for the organization. A cents € cents Monitors trends and recommends changes to facilitate recruitment, retention, and on-going motivation of employees. A cents € cents Participates on committees and special projects, and seeks additional responsibilities. A cents € cents Other duties as assigned. Work Environment and Physical Demands: A cents € cents Standard office environment in Charles Town, WV. Travel to other office locations required as needed to support organizational goals. Occasional remote work may be required, but the breadth of the work should occur in the office on the Charles Town campus.A cents € cents Extensive knowledge of HR generalist roles. A cents € cents Ability to work independently of supervision/technical assistance except for difficult assignments. A cents € cents Ability to multi-task; requires dedication and focused concentration for extended time periods. A cents € cents Superior employee relations skills and considerable knowledge of human resource technology and methodology. A cents € cents Technical and supervisory problem solving is a critical responsibility and requires research, investigation, inquiry, and evaluation. Usually all necessary work information is not available and must be developed by the incumbent. A cents € cents Incumbent coaches, assists, and collaborates across the department as needed. Regularly works with confidential data requiring care to protect. Complies with all policies, procedures, and work rule guidelines. A cents € cents Administers complaint process and corrective action program. A cents € cents The incumbent is expected to perform all duties and tasks within his/her department or job and when assigned, in any other department or job to the best of his/her individual skill and ability. A cents € cents Superior verbal and written communication skills. A cents € cents Experience with standard office software and HR information system, preferably UltiPro. A cents € cents Organized, highly motivated, and a quick learner; able to work with limited supervision. A cents € cents Proactive, flexible, and comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment, which demands a high level of energy and commitment. A cents € cents Ability to communicate with all levels of employees in the organization. A cents € cents Problem solving and decision making ability. Required Experience: A cents € cents Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field is required; Master's degree preferred. A cents € cents Minimum of 7 years of direct experience required with 5 years in supervision or closely related experience. A cents € cents SPHR/PHR and/or SHRM-SCP/CP certification strongly preferred.
