A. A bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totalling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one of more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
B. Combination of education and experience that includes both of the following requirements:
- Technical work experience in actuarial support work or in mathematics;
- Completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours of courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science at a four year college or university. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
If you wish to use your education as a basis for meeting the eligibility and/or minimum qualification requirements for this position, you must submit academic transcripts demonstrating that you meet the qualifying educational requirements. If specific course work is required to fulfill the eligibility and/or minimum qualification requirements, you must supply transcripts from each academic institution in which the required courses were taken in order to receive credit for that course work. Technical Credibility (Actuarial Science) – Understands and appropriately applies actuarial principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
Planning and Organizing – Ability to initiate and direct a variety of special and regular studies on actuarial liability. Ability to effectively plan work, schedule projects and activities, establish priorities, and discuss goals and objectives with upper management and staff.
Communication – Oral and Written – Expresses actuarial information (for example, data, analysis, or findings) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information. Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
Interpersonal Skills – Develops and maintains effective relations with others. Uses interpersonal skills to organize, coordinate and negotiate a variety of actuarial policy issues and serve as an advisor to OWCP leadership.

The examining Human Resources Office (HRO) makes the final determination concerning applicant ratings. Your resume MUST provide sufficient information to substantiate your responses to the vacancy questions. If not, the HRO may amend your responses to more accurately reflect the level of competency indicated by the content of your resume. Your evaluation may also include a review by a Human Resources Specialist or panel and may include other assessments (ex. interview, panel review, written test, writing sample, etc.)
