Network Engineer - Technical Analyst IT
Description PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Network Engineer installs, configures and maintains customer facility networks, including but not limited to switches, routers, and firewalls. He/she will generally specialize in other core networking areas which may include load balancing, security, and/or unified communications. This position will also be responsible for design modifications to meet customers' changing requirements, and to address new technologies introduced into the environment(s). The will be involved in the life-cycle of design and implementation, including documentation and trouble-shooting. He/she will also be involved in design, configuration, installation, and troubleshooting of utilities specific solutions (SCADA, token ring, telemetry, etc.). The Network Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert while participating in multi-discipline troubleshooting. Duties: * Install, configure, manage, and maintain all network devices to established standards, security and best practices * Coordinate and implement the installation of new equipment and products in the network. * Coordinate and implement the removal of network equipment being displaced or replaced. * Configure, maintain and troubleshoot network management appliances (Cisco ISE, Cisco Prime, RuggedNMS, Nokia SAM) * Troubleshoot network routing, TCP/IP subnets, network security and AD-related ports and protocols, DNS, and DHCP with System Administrators. * Implement new tools to diagnoses and monitor the network, as needed. * Develop firewall rule-sets, network routes and ACLs to insure the integrity of the solution. * Design and configure secure wireless networks. * Test solutions, configuration changes and micro-code updates to validate operability of solution. * Provide advanced troubleshooting skills and the ability to rapidly identify issues and provide restoration of issues. * Coordinate and implement software code upgrades in all network equipment during appropriate maintenance window. * Administrate and Troubleshoot LAN/ WAN network related problems, must be familiar with Telco procedures and troubleshooting. * Ensure that security procedures are implemented and enforced for all network devices. * Execute network implementation activities for multiple short and long term projects while adhering to all project management standards. * Ensures that long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are included in the overall systems planning of the organization. * Evaluate network equipment for vulnerabilities and ensure appropriate vendor patches are applied * Ensures network device compliance with NERC/CIP standards and change management procedures * Ensures network device compliance with cooperate information security standards Qualifications Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline with a minimum of five (5) years of direct, hands-on, production experience with networking equipment including switches, routers, and firewalls. * Must be willing to work independently and as part of a team. * Ability to travel 90% of the time and participate in rotating on-call and queue monitoring schedules in a 24/7/365 environment * Strong knowledge of Nokia and Cisco products, solutions and best practices * Strong knowledge of VPN technologies, SSL, IPSEC, site to site access, DMVPN and remote user access using Cisco AnyConnect * Strong knowledge of wireless technologies * Excellent analytical, conceptual, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills * Experience with adhering to ITIL processes * Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, be customer- and detail-oriented, and possess good decision-making abilities.
