Works in Adult Protective Services (APS) as part of the comprehensive Adult and Aging program from the Annandale, Virginia office. Conducts investigations in response to reports of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation of the elderly and incapacitated adults to include institutional investigations. Assesses the need and extent of protective services required and--in collaboration with the client, their support systems, and other public and private service providers--arranges for the necessary services to prevent/ameliorate the abuse, neglect or exploitation. Assesses the need for guardianship/conservator-ship and facilitates the process to include medical documentation, preparation of information required for petitions, testimony in court and advocacy. Assesses the need for mental health intervention, assists with the mental health detention process and testifies in the legal hearings. Attends court hearings and provides professional and legal testimony as needed.

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus two years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license.
Experience in working with older adults and/or adults with disabilities. Experience in working with diverse multicultural population. Case management experience and good writing skills. Working with diverse multicultural populations. Proficiency in a second language (Spanish, Korean, Farsi, Vietnamese). Previous work experience with a public, state, or local social services agency. Experience in working with crisis situations, preferred but not required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry check, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. Driver's license or ability to efficiently access other means of transportation in order to visit clients in their homes and to meet with community service providers. Some positions may require oral and written bilingual competency in English and a second language. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both oral and in writing. Working with clients, service providers and community groups outside the office. Able to conduct home visits.
Ability to use automated technology. Able to lift up to 10 pounds. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
