PenFed is hiring a Specialist, BSA Compliance Audit in either our Mclean or Alexandria, Virginia locations. The primary purpose of this job is to support efforts to plan, perform and report on a program of complex BSA compliance audits that demonstrate PenFed’s resolve regarding the importance of BSA compliance. This position will work in a team environment and the incumbent will apply their BSA-related expertise to assess controls in PenFed’s operational lines of business, including such functions as mortgage banking, credit card services, auto lending, asset and account management, investment operations, affiliated business activities and financial and risk management. In addition, the incumbent will be in charge of BSA audit assignments and work either individually or with an audit team depending on the objectives and scope of the testing performed.

  • Maintain awareness of BSA compliance requirements and regulatory and industry compliance initiatives in order to provide leadership in BSA compliance audit efforts.
  • Manage, analyze and evaluate PenFed’s compliance BSA regulatory requirements and guidelines in such areas as related BSA risk assessment, customer identification, enhanced due diligence, transactions monitoring and screening, and regulatory reporting of suspicious activities and currency transactions.
  • Conduct risk assessments to help drive the risk-based BSA audit program intended to fulfill independent testing requirements and guidelines.
  • Execute the annual risk-based BSA audit program to provide appropriate BSA coverage.
  • Perform BSA and related audits from start to completion.
  • Take ownership by leading efforts to scope BSA audits, developing testing plans, identifying important issues, discussing results with clients, and drafting audit reports.       

Education and Experience

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

    Bachelor’s Degree preferably in a business or related field.
    Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ of professional audit experience including AML/BSA testing, or regulatory experience within the financial services industry. Knowledge of the BSA regulatory environment and demonstrated skill in applying that knowledge to the assessment of a BSA compliance program. Exposure to the internal audit process including risk assessments, planning, scheduling, reporting, and continuous auditing. Ability to effectively multi-task across various projects, oversee audit performance, manage milestones, and prepare professional audit products the meet the highest quality standards. Demonstrated audit team leadership experience to take charge and deliver on important audit assignments. Strong verbal and written communication skills for audit report drafting and presentation to senior audit and business management.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not supervise employees.


Licenses and Certifications

CPA, CIA or BSA-related certification or training a plus.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

*Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*



Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call is required.
