Job Title: MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST III Closing Date/Time: Thu. 02/22/18 11:59 PM Eastern Time Salary: $62,358.40 - $95,284.80 Annually
Job Type: Full-Time Location: 2120 Washington Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22204, Virginia       The Residential and Specialized Clinical Services Bureau is hiring an experienced Mental Health Therapist to lead Bureau efforts to address the opioid epidemic within the community. The employee will play a key role in assessing program needs and in identifying strategies to fill service gaps by working with a variety of community partners to identify and develop specialized treatment options for individuals with opioid use disorders. This Mental Health Therapist will also manage the County's contracts for residential services for clients with substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions.

Duties include:
  • Assisting the Program Manager with developing, managing, and administering programs to address identified service gaps within the Bureau's continuum of care;
  • Managing contracts for the withdrawal management (Detox) and substance abuse residential programs for clients with substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions;
  • Reviewing referrals to the intensive outpatient program, screening potential clients for eligibility for the level of care, and ensuring timely transition into the program;
  • Providing program coverage, including back-up coverage for the supervisor,  including conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, facilitating groups and/or individual therapy, and completing risk assessments and safety plans;
  • Assisting with the Arlington County response to the opioid epidemic by meeting with community stakeholders to help improve outreach and engagement of target populations and identify ways of increasing access to treatment;
  • Providing REVIVE! Training (naloxone administration) to members of the community; and/or
  • Monitoring program compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to provision of clinical services and clinical record keeping.

 Selection Criteria: Minimum:
  • Master's degree in a clinical discipline such as Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or another directly related clinical discipline, which required a clinical practicum involving diagnostic, treatment, and case management services;
  • A minimum of three years of post-master's experience providing direct clinical social work or mental health counseling to clients who have substance use disorders; and
  • Clinical license (LPC, LCSW, LCP, LMFT) in the State of Virginia is preferred.
Substitution: Directly-related higher level clinical degrees may substitute for the Master's degree education requirement and one year of experience. In the case of this substitution, qualifying work experience must have been gained after the acquisition of the directly related higher level clinical degree.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following;
  • Providing Intensive Outpatient services;
  • Contract management in a non-profit setting;
  • Experience assessing emergent needs or crisis situations; and
  • Providing assessments/diagnosis using ASAM/ICD-10 criteria.

 Special Requirements: Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent on a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

A State of Virginia Children's Central Registry Check will be performed as a condition of employment.
 Additional Information: Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with flexibility. Occasional evening availability will be required.
