Job Title: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP (2 VACANCIES) Closing Date/Time: Thu. 03/08/18 11:59 PM Eastern Time Salary: $18.57 - $37.30 Hourly
One Year, Full-Time, Paid Internship Program

 The Department of Technology Services (DTS) is seeking two highly motivated recent Information Technology graduates to provide him or her with an exciting one-year internship within a dynamic technology organization. This is an opportunity to individuals with little or no previous professional work experience to prepare them for a career in Information Technology. These internships will offer two recent college graduates or currently enrolled graduate students with in-depth, hands-on learning opportunities in areas critical to supporting a local government structure. Over the course of a year, these employees will work under the supervision of senior staff members to gain valuable on-the-job training and real-world experience, support the County's efforts to consistently work toward greater efficiency and effectiveness through improved processes, fresh ideas and leveraged smart technologies, and become familiar with public sector work environment as a viable and fulfilling career path.

The Network Monitoring Management Intern will provide support for the Network Engineering and Operations (NEO) division. Under the direction of network engineers, analysts and server team staff, the intern will assist in monitoring devices, including installation, configuration, administration, troubleshooting and maintenance of the County's monitoring tools.

Duties may include:
  • Installing upgrades and identifying issues with new releases in collaboration with vendors;
  • Creating customized network system performance reports, alerts, and dashboard views for users and engineers;
  • Directing service request tickets to team members, monitoring ticket statuses, and closing out completed tickets;
  • Communicating with engineers, analysts, administrators and management regarding scheduled maintenance, service outages and/or equipment malfunctions; and
  • Assisting in conducting training workshops for technical support staff following Senior Analysts' guidance.
The .Net Management Intern will provide design, development and maintenance support for the Enterprise Technology & Application Services Division by working closely with AMS team to assist in supporting eGov, REAS and other .Net applications under DTS's application portfolio.

Duties may include:
  • Developing and debugging solutions to technical issues/enhancements of limited scope;
  • Designing modifying ASP.NET Applications, Net Components, Web Services & Enterprise Components;
  • Creating and maintain SQL database schemas and scripts, including views, triggers, and stored procedures;
  • Documenting and updating user materials, including end user support documents, scopes of work, flow charts, block diagrams, and other technical documentation; and
  • Researching technology initiatives and applying in proof of concept or prototype projects.

 Selection Criteria: Minimums: A Bachelor's or Master's degree within the past year (2017, 2018) or currently enrolled in a Master's degree program.

Degree Requirements: Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Management Information Systems, or closely related field with a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

The Network Monitoring Management Intern:
  • Basic networking, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and/or Telnet Internet protocols; and/or
  • Ping, Trace Route, NS Lookup and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
The .Net Management Intern:
  • Object-Oriented Programing Language (e.g. C++, C#, VB Net, Microsoft.NET);
  • RDBMS and T-SQL;
  • HTML and JavaScript;
  • N-Tier architecture, API based communication;
  • .Net platform and application framework such as MVC 2,3, WPF and Angular and/or
  • Document management systems such as OnBase or similar.
We anticipate filling these positions in April, 2018. Therefore, applications will be accepted from candidates graduating with an undergraduate degree no later than March, 2018. Candidates may be currently pursuing a Master's degree in their IT-related field during the non-work, evening hours.

Note: Applicants may not have significant professional work experience related to the internship for which they are applying but will have acquired the technical skills needed in an academic environment.
 Additional Information: Work hours: Flexible 40-hour workweek during daytime hours on Monday-Friday.

Management Intern positions are funded for one year. These positions do not become permanent positions nor are Management Interns transferred automatically to permanent positions.  At the end of the internship, management interns are encouraged to apply and compete for vacant positions throughout the County.
