Library Specialist III Reference, Research & Instruction Specialist

The George Mason University Arlington Campus Library is looking for an enthusiastic and innovative person to be a Reference, Research and Instruction Specialist. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Manager of the Arlington Campus Library, this position assists with public services, including reference, access services, and instruction at the Arlington Campus Library. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing reference services; providing circulation and access services; providing individual, group and classroom instruction; assisting patrons with electronic resources and citation management tools; overseeing evening and weekend operations, managing serials, participating in other Arlington Campus Library and Social Sciences Team department-wide projects, and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: The person in this role should be a self-starter and able to work collaboratively in a team-based environment. Some travel is required between campuses for departmental meetings and training. Adjustments to regular schedule may be required to accommodate staff absences; and semester, exam and intersession schedule changes.

Applicants must have the demonstrated knowledge of library public services, reference and access services; demonstrated proficiency with current library systems and research resources; instruction/teaching skills (individual and group); ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment; demonstrated understanding of citation management software; commitment and ability to learn and use new information technologies and resources; excellent oral, listening and written communication skills; demonstrated technology skills; ability to work independently, identifying and modifying work priorities as needed; problem-solving skills; attention to detail; ability to work effectively and courteously with multicultural populations and varying education levels; strong customer service skills; Bachelor’s degree, or a combination of education and equivalent library experience.
