Works as part of a state of the art clinical treatment facility where integrated treatment in behavioral health care is on the cutting edge. Works as a management /treatment provider position serving adults age 18+ with serious mental illness, substance use dependence and co-occurring disorders, as well as intellectual disabilities and physical illnesses. Must be able to complete complex, comprehensive assessments specific to the needs of the SMI/SUD and Co-occurring populations to include court ordered individuals. Functions independently on a multidisciplinary team, as primary case manager/ therapist provides a comprehensive array of professional treatment services to diagnostically, culturally and socio-economically diverse clients. Duties include completing urinalysis, breathalyzers as well linking, monitoring, and reporting to community partners such probation and parole, court system, Department of Family Services etc. Maintains collaborative relationships with clients for all phases of treatment planning and develops detailed client centered treatment plans, as well as conducts individual, group and family treatment. Expectations include incumbent working with interns, volunteers, peer support, community and inter-agency partners. Applicant must be computer literate in the electronic health record, and must maintain detailed electronic documentation that meet state local and federal performance contract expectations. Duties also include working at least one evening per week. A strong commitment to program development with an approach of "nothing is impossible" required.

Illustrative Duties

Performs complex evaluations and makes independent diagnoses using Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders;
Provides individual, family and group treatment;
Maintains a diverse caseload of clients with acute, chronic mental illness;
Approves and/or implements therapeutic treatment plans;
Conducts intensive clinical interventions;
Collaborates with service professionals as participant/lead of Interdisciplinary Team (IDT);
Consults with professionals on a variety of problems including delivery of needed services for clinically complex cases;
Provides liaison to community agencies to facilitate communication and service provision for clients requiring multiple services;
Monitors and analyzes the impact of psychotropic medication on client's functioning and mental status;
Provides risk assessments for dangerousness to self and others;
Provides crisis stabilization and crisis management.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Extensive knowledge of the principles, theories, and methods of the psychological and social development of the individual;
Thorough knowledge of intake procedures, social history development, and interviewing techniques;
Thorough knowledge of major schools of treatment of emotionally and socially disturbed individuals;
Knowledge of psychiatric, psychological, and/or sociological terminology and concepts;
Ability to conduct mental health assessments and apply treatment approaches/modalities;
Ability to formulate diagnoses for clients with acute, chronic, severe mental illness;
Ability to diagnostically interpret data obtained from psychological test results, social histories, and interviews;
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public and private sector organizations, community groups, and the general public;
Ability to monitor and analyze the impact of psychotropic medications;
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited college with a master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or nursing, plus two years of clinical experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Clinician with in depth skills in integrating combined therapies for individuals experiencing SMI, SUD and co-occurring disorders. Experience in substance abuse counseling, Motivational Interviewing, and Stages of Change. Strong commitment to program development. Knowledge of ICD 9 / ICD10, diagnostic intake procedures, psychotropic medications and their effects and in depth social history development. Bilingual a plus.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of a current license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia in one of the following:
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  • Licensed Professional Counselor
  • Clinical Psychologist
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
  • Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist
Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license with fewer than six demerit points (or equivalent in another state) at time of appointment and maintained throughout employment with CSB.

UNDERFILL REQUIREMENTS:
Behavioral Health Clinician in residence, Grade S24 ($57,165 - $95,276 Annually)
Graduation from an accredited college with a master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or nursing; plus two years of clinical experience.
Certificates and Licenses Required: Ability to register as a licensed eligible mental health professional within 90 days of the appointment and able to qualify for licensure requirement to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia within 3 years of employment in one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist.
A registered licensed eligible mental health professional has been approved by the applicable Virginia health regulatory board as a supervisee in clinical social work or a resident in clinical psychology, professional counseling, substance abuse treatment practice, or marriage and family therapy.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a driving record check, and an Office of the Inspector General (OIG) check to the satisfaction of the employer. TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. Requires a National Provider Identifier.

Work is located in community and office. Ability to independently transport self and consumers and fulfill duties at various sites. Ability to observe, process and document clinical information and make clinical interventions. Ability to access, input, and retrieve computer data.
