Description

SmithBucklin, a 100 percent employee-owned association management company, is looking for an Membership Manager to join our Healthcare & Scientific Industry Practice in Chicago. The Healthcare & Scientific unit offers unmatched association expertise and specific knowledge of the issues, challenges and actions distinctive to the changing healthcare environment. From legislative and regulatory advocacy, to building successful industry relations programs and understanding the intricacies of journal publishing and management issues, our association professionals bring extensive experience and considerable knowledge of the issues unique to healthcare-related associations. The Membership Manager plays a significant role in the management of our client associations' programs and supports the association Executive Director in all areas of association management.

What You Will Do

  • Directly supervise support staff; indirectly coordinate staff from other functional areas in support of client(s)
  • Oversee membership functions, such as recruitment, growth and retention, regional societies, and overall quality assurance
  • Assist staff in generating relevant, accurate and timely reports that assist with understanding trends in association programs; communicating those trends to association volunteer leaders and staff
  • Manage volunteer committees in determination and execution of programs; assure strategic goals are being met and future leaders are being mentored for committees; specifically responsible for the Nominations and Elections Committee
  • Draft correspondence to board and volunteers; review and edit all marketing pieces promoting various programs
  • Daily financial management including budget development, monthly dashboards & forecasts.
  • Participate in the development and execution of the association's strategic plans

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience, to include direct supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with association healthcare groups and volunteer management is highly preferred
  • A solid knowledge base of the healthcare association/industry
  • Experience working with volunteers is valuable
  • Database management experience and website editing skills are a plus
  • Proficiency with basic computer programming, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
