The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, a non-profit, membership/volunteer service organization with its National Headquarters located near the White House, is seeking an Assistant Controller to join their six-member accounting department.
Responsibilities cover full range of analytical accounting and budget work, including the management of the day to day operations, work flow and assignments, preparing monthly journal entries, schedules and analyses as requested, year-end audit and preparation of federal and state tax returns.
The Assistant Controller will directly supervise the activities and workflow of Payroll, A/P and Accountant staff and periodically performs and documents internal audits of financial functions in organization’s other departments.
This position is also responsible for assisting the Controller and Accounting Supervisor with preparation of monthly financial comparisons, audit schedules and annual reports.
- CPA (active)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
- At least three years accounting experience in a public accounting firm working with 501(c)(3) organizations, or minimum four years of strong accounting experience in an accounting department of a non-profit organization
- Supervisory experience
- Experience preparing financial statements and reporting responsibilities
Qualified applicants must also possess good written and verbal communication skills; advanced computer skills, specifically spreadsheets and accounting and other integrated software systems; demonstrate the ability to apply accounting principles and practices, as well as employ strong analytical capabilities and sound judgment; pay attention to detail and successfully meet multiple deadlines; maintain confidentiality and an organized work environment.
