DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
The social media manager will manage both the social media vision and the day to day interactions occurring throughout the APA’s vast network of social media channels. Like a conductor for a symphony, this individual will work with each of the identified social media specialists approved for external engagement while creating a single voice for the APA from their chorus.
This is a strategic position for an individual who has a deep understanding of how to maximize impact for an organization within the social media space, knowledge of channel etiquette, and passion for social media and its best practices. This social media leader will also be able to mentor, inspire, and train others on what is necessary to achieve APA’s vision. He or she must possess a sense of clear authority on these topics yet be approachable and helpful to an APA staff with a range of social media expertise. The best candidate will understand social media and its role in marketing and communications, and work with others on the communications team to ensure cohesive voice that supports broader strategy.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required. Basic understanding of psychological concepts and issues is preferred.
5+ years’ experience in social media/communications. Experience managing a social media presence for a recognized or complex brand required. Experience with team oversight preferred.
Proficiency across social media channels, including active personal engagement in social media. Preference given to health care experience.
Experience creating unique, compelling, and engaging content from a variety of sources.
Exceptional written, oral, and organizational skills.
Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
Mastery of social media management, tracking, and listening tools such as Hootsuite, Buffer, Canva, FollowerWonk (Moz), and more. Comfort in Salesforce and other marketing systems a plus.
Graphic design software facility a plus.
Ability to contribute to a strong team-based environment.
Results-oriented with a attention to detail, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
As social media engagement is a continuous endeavor, individual must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees development and communication of social media strategy for the enterprise, including voice and messaging priorities, to further the mission and strategic objectives of the organization.
Set strategy and tactics for social media usage at APA
Trains and directs staff across APA programs and directorates to ensure consistent voice, branding and engagement across all APA social media channels
Oversee all APA social media channels (currently ~75)
Assess APA’s social media channels and presence on a regular basis, making determinations about channels to add or sunset
Develops and implements social media plans and promotions for specific programs and special events as needed.
Develop and track KPIs per channel, per network, and in aggregate
Create structure within APA to help shape best practices
Work with membership staff and others to develop and grow social component of membership
Develop event driven playbooks to drive awareness of and engagement with APA’s work on social platforms
Identify opportunities in emerging media (e.g. VR, AR, Gaming, beacons, etc), new networks, or new features within existing mix.
Identifies opportunities to further APA objectives via social media using new technologies, social media channels or features within existing social media channels.
Develop and maintain relationships with partner organizations in complementary space to grow APA’s brand
Oversee visual content style and standards for APA, as outlined by APA’s creative director
Establish APA routing network for external inquiries & support requests
Other Duties as Assigned:
Will be responsible for training anyone who engages in social media engagement on behalf of APA.
Supervisory Responsibility: Hires, trains, coaches, manages and evaluates performance of 1 or more direct reports. Approves direct reports’ timesheets and PTO in HRIS.
Provides direction and feedback for anyone in APA who engages in Social Media on behalf of the APA in their role as a social media communications staff. However, this is typically a small part of each of these individuals’ daily workload.
