Summary of the Position:

The Senior Technical Manager is responsible for conceptualizing, developing, launching and growing new technical programs designed to enhance and complement Global Public Health’s core in country programming. The incumbent is responsible for both successfully executing and externally representing and publicizing a newly-established highly visible and strategic program, Technology Review.   Additionally, the incumbent will maintain technical proficiency across all key programmatic areas in Global Public Health and, thus, is able to deliver, as needed/ directed, field-based support across these areas and provide technical advice or act as technical representation in proposal generation and related discussions.

  

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical, management and strategic oversight for key “allied” programs within Global Public Health, including providing oversight for the Technology Review Program and overseeing the associated Expert Panel
  • Lead in generation of new scientific and technical content to address unmet public health needs and augment GPH program offerings
  • Represent global public health programs in highly-visible forums, showcasing USP’s scientific leadership and technical capabilities
  • Support the development of technical proposals for new donor funding opportunities, in collaboration with Partnerships, Growth and Learning (PG&L)
  • Support development of concept notes, proposals, and other enabling resources for staff to capture potential growth opportunities
  • Support Technical Director in activities, as directed, including in new opportunity identification, technical work-planning, implementation and report writing
  • Support Technical Director in codifying and continuously improving technical approach
  • Conduct in country technical assistance and trainings, as needed/ directed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in sciences and advanced degree in sciences or public health or equivalent life experience
  • Experience managing Public health programs in developing countries
  • Good understanding of laboratory Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Significant experience and knowledge of Laboratory and Manufacturing processes in the Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Ability to work in matrixed environment
  • Ability to travel internationally at least 25% of the time
  • Strong knowledge of key public health issues and trends, including in TB, HIV/ AIDS, NTD, MNCH, Malaria and AMR
  • Understanding of generic pharmaceuticals, including quality control and quality assurance

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Analytical chemistry background
  • Proficiency in French or Portuguese a plus
  • Ability to travel internationally at least 25% of the time
