    To qualify for GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate that you have successfully completed a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks; OR demonstrate that you have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or in the private or public sector. Experience includes: 1) Applying basic IT principles and practices; 2) Communicating factual and procedural information clearly; and 3) Gathering and analyzing basic facts and drawing conclusions. IT-related experience demonstrates each of the four competencies as defined: (1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. An example of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency is: Analyzing specific details and guidelines. (2) Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. An example of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency is: providing assistance to co-workers in the immediate office. (3) Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. An examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency is: Exchanging IT related information when called upon.(4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. An example of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency is: Reviewing computer related issues.


    To qualify for GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate that you have successfully completed a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management with superior academic achievement, and the education equipped you with the competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position; OR successfully completed 1 full year of graduate level education in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks; OR demonstrate that you have one year of information technology related specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized Experience includes: 1) Applying IT principles, methods, and tools; 2) Working with customers to assess their IT needs; 3) Providing assistance in preparing recommendations for changes in IT methods and practices where appropriate; and 4) Identifying and/or resolving basic IT issues and problems. IT-related experience demonstrates each of the four competencies as defined: (1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. An example of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency is: Determining the appropriate use of established procedures. (2) Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. An example of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency is: Clarifying technical information as needed. (3) Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Discussing operational issues with customers; presenting systems analysis observations to senior leaders to make recommendations. (4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. An example of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency is: Diagnosing network problems to identify or resolve computer issues.
