The National Recreation & Park Association is actively seeking to fill the position of Senior Government Affairs Manager.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Urban and Government Affairs, this position serves as the lead staff person for our Conservation portfolio including, but not limited to, funding for park and trails, active transportation, green infrastructure, connecting children to nature, and land and water conservation. The Senior Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to advance NRPA’s legislative and regulatory interests in these areas and represents NRPA before Congress and Executive agencies. The Senior Manager will work cross departmentally to further overall organizational  strategic plan and provide thought leadership on issue portfolio. Looking for creative, energetic, self-starter, with a passion for NRPA’s mission.   

Duties & Responsibilities

Advocacy - Engage in direct lobbying of Congress and the Administration; attend and coordinate Hill briefings and other events; prepare congressional testimony, correspondence to members and Federal agencies, including regulatory comments on assigned issues and other issues as required.
Research and Analysis - Conduct background research and investigate issues to help develop specific legislative and regulatory initiatives favorable to parks and recreation; monitor proposed legislation and proposed regulations.
Coalitions - Represent NRPA’s interest within coalitions on the issues of transportation, children and nature and land and water conservation spaces and others as required.
Communication - Write articles, blog posts, action alerts, and legislative analyses; assist in preparing, legislative platform, position statements, and reports for NRPA members, the CEO, and the Board of Directors.

This position will be working from the Washington DC office located near Farragut Square. It will require one day of travel per week to our headquarters in Ashburn, VA.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelors Degree required, Masters degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or Public Policy a plus

Experience: 5-7 years direct lobbying and advocacy experience, Capitol Hill experience preferred but not required.
