Job Description: Conducts pre-admission, admission, concurrent and retrospective reviews of all patients; coordinates all systems and services required for as organized, interdisciplinary team approach to healthcare; assures quality, cost effective care and efficient utilization of resources and health services across the healthcare continuance. Performs utilization management. Participates in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care and education. Coordinates patient discharge. Practices information management Patients served include neonate through adult-geriatric. Education & Experience :Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.Five years clinical experience in a healthcare setting required.Previous utilization management experience preferred. Licensure & Certification :Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Maryland or compact state required.CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) required.Certification in Case Management or Utilization Review preferred. Skills & Abilities :Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative of his or her age-specific needs.Knowledge of medical records and the ability to interpret contents and relay information to payor and others as needed is required.Ability to identify problems, develop course of action and follow through to resolution is required.Ability to communicate effectively and positively, both written and verbally, with staff, physicians, other hospital personnel, patients and the general public required.Ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of patients and the confidentiality of hospital and departmental documents required.The ability to communicate effectively and positively, both written and verbally, with staff, physicians, other hospital personnel, patients, families and the general public required.Must have knowledge of medical records and ability to interpret contents and relay information to payors and others as needed is required.Ability to compile, collect and analyze data and prepare statistical reports.Ability to identify problems, develop a course of action and follow through to resolute is required.Ability to apply nursing process to patients across the continuous is required.Must be able to make independent decisions regarding professional and clerical areas is required.Must be able to prioritize workload. Physical Demands : While performing this job, the individual will work in confined areas and or the nursing units. The job requires sitting approximately 70% of the time with walking and standing approximately 30% of the time. The job requires visual and auditory acuity and ability to orally communicate.
